Angel Reese turned a routine box-out assignment into a historic night Monday.
Reese grabbed 26 rebounds to set the WNBA single-game record and added 11 points as the Atlanta Dream beat the Los Angeles Sparks 78-71. She broke the previous mark of 24, set by Chamique Holdsclaw for Washington on May 23, 2003.
The performance also pushed Reese past A’ja Wilson for the league’s single-season rebounding record. Reese has 458 rebounds this season, seven more than Wilson collected in 2024.
Her 11th point came with 13.9 seconds remaining, giving her a WNBA best 27th double-double of the season.
Atlanta didn’t need Reese to carry the scoring. It needed her to clean up everything around the rim, and she did. Loose balls, long misses, tip-outs Reese was in the middle of nearly all of them.
Allisha Gray led the Dream (25-13) with 20 points and set the franchise’s single-season field-goals record with 247. Rhyne Howard scored 18 and passed 3,000 career points.
Nneka Ogwumike finished with 27 points and 16 rebounds for the Sparks (13-25), while Dearica Hamby and Cameron Brink scored 15 points apiece.
The Dream have won nine straight against Los Angeles.
Atlanta hosts Portland on Friday. The Sparks host Washington that night.
