Nyara Sabally didn’t just have a big night she had full control of it. With confidence in every touch, Sabally had a career-high 29 points and set the tone for a Toronto Tempo team that leaned on its offense to defeat the Chicago Sky, 111-104, on Wednesday night. This one had a little bit of everything shot-making, pace, and just enough late tension to make it interesting.

Chicago made its push late, cutting the deficit to just two with a little over three minutes left. But every time it felt like the momentum might swing, Toronto had an answer. Marina Mabrey hit one of the biggest shots, knocking down a tough step-back jumper to create breathing room, and Sabally followed with a timely three that pushed the lead right back out.

Mabrey was in rhythm all night, finishing with 24 points and seven assists while controlling the flow. Brittney Sykes added 20, bringing her usual performance on both ends, and rookie Kiki Rice quietly stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, eight boards, and seven assists. But this night belonged to Sabally. She was efficient, decisive, and nearly automatic, shooting 11-for-14 from the field and making every possession feel intentional. Whether she was finishing inside or stepping out to hit from deep, Chicago had no real answer.

Toronto as a group looked sharp offensively, shooting 56 percent and moving the ball with purpose. By halftime, they had already built a rhythm, taking a 55-48 lead behind consistent scoring. They didn’t let up coming out of the break either.

An early third-quarter run stretched the lead into double digits, forcing Chicago to play from behind the rest of the way. To their credit, the Sky kept pushing. Rookie Sydney Taylor stepped up with a season-high 27 points, while Skylar Diggins and Natasha Cloud combined to keep the offense flowing with scoring and playmaking.

Still, every run from Chicago felt like it was met with a steady response from Toronto.

The Tempo move back to .500 at 4-4, showing flashes of what they can look like when everything clicks offensively. Chicago, now 3-4, showed fight but couldn’t quite piece together the stops they needed down the stretch.

Toronto will look to carry that momentum into its next matchup against Seattle, while Chicago matches up Friday against Minnesota.
