Makayla Timpson scored a career-high 20 points, including Indiana’s first three baskets in overtime, and the Fever held off the Atlanta Dream 95-91 on Sunday.
Caitlin Clark scored 26 points with nine assists, Kelsey Mitchell added 20 points, and Indiana (23-12) maintained its hold on fourth place in the WNBA standings. The top four teams receive home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
Timpson gave the Fever a needed answer in overtime, scoring on Indiana’s first three possessions from the field after regulation ended tied at 81.
Mitchell, who had just five first-half points, made a 3-pointer with 1:05 remaining in regulation to tie it. Atlanta had three attempts on its final possession but couldn’t get the go-ahead basket to fall.
In overtime, Mitchell’s layup with 13.6 seconds remaining pushed Indiana ahead and gave her a 19th consecutive game with at least 20 points. Clark then made two free throws after Atlanta cut the deficit to 93-91.
Allisha Gray scored 32 points for Atlanta (21-13), matching her career high. Angel Reese had 15 points, 14 rebounds and six assists as the Dream erased a nine-point second-quarter deficit with a 17-4 run to take a 44-40 halftime lead.
Atlanta played without starting point guard Jordin Canada, who was ruled out shortly before tipoff because of illness. Brionna Jones also missed the game with a left leg injury. Jaylen Sherrod made her first career start.
The Fever visit Toronto on Tuesday night. Atlanta travels to Las Vegas on Tuesday.
