The Las Vegas Aces defeated the New York Liberty 104-76 in game 2 of the WNBA Finals, leading the series 2-0. Now the New York Liberty will have to play with a chip on their shoulders in a must-win game 3 this Sunday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The game will be televised on ABC at 3 p.m. ET. Some may wonder if the Liberty has what it takes to force a game four or get swept by the defending champions. No team in WNBA history has overcome a 0-2 deficit to win the series. The New York Liberty’s coach Sandy Brondello believes her team isn’t playing at their highest level. In a post-game interview, she stated “I know we’re way better than that. We have to prove to ourselves that we’re a better team than what we showed these last two.”
The Liberty’s backcourt has struggled to execute in games 1 & 2. Sabrina Ionescu and Courtney Vandersloot only combined for 19 points in game 2 while the Las Vegas Aces’ backcourt (Jackie Young & Kelsey Plum) combined for 47 points that game. If the Liberty wants to keep their franchise’s first championship hopes alive, their backcourt must show up offensively, and the entire team must be proficient in every aspect of the game. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Aces are looking to become the first team to repeat as champions since the Los Angeles Sparks in 2001 & 2002. Will the Aces Seal the deal or Will the Liberty learn to win from their losses? Only time will tell! Who do you think will win Game 3? Put your responses in the comments below.
