Breanna Stewart scored 27 points, moved into eighth place on the WNBA’s career scoring list, and led the New York Liberty to a 106-69 win over the Toronto Tempo on Sunday.
Stewart made 10 of 14 shots, went 7-for-7 at the free-throw line and finished with eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in 22 minutes. She passed Cappie Pondexter’s 6,811 career points early in the first quarter and now has 6,833.
The Liberty improved to 26-16 and won their third straight game. With two games remaining, New York can still finish anywhere from fourth through eighth in the playoff standings.
Stewart scored nine points in the first quarter as the Liberty took a 26-19 lead. She had 13 by halftime, helping New York carry a 45-37 advantage into the break.
The Liberty took control in the third quarter.
Stewart scored 14 points in the period, and New York outscored Toronto 33-20 to push its lead to 78-57 entering the fourth. The Liberty made 16 3-pointers, including four from Rebecca Allen, who finished with 14 points off the bench.
Laura Juskaite scored a career-high 28 points for Toronto. Kiki Rice added 19 points.
The Tempo fell to 11-31, losing their sixth straight game and 18th in their last 19.
New York hosts Atlanta on Monday and Wednesday to close the regular season. Toronto visits Chicago on Tuesday.
